Remarks by Ambassador Ahmet Akif Oktay at the Opening Ceremony of the Turkish Products Exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City on 3 December 2014
REMARKS BY AMBASSADOR AHMET AKİF OKTAY
AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF
THE FIRST TURKISH PRODUCTS EXHIBITION IN VIETNAM
Ho Chi Minh City, 3 December 2014
Your Excellency Mr. Nguyen Cam Tu, Vice Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam,
Mr. Hoang Van Dung, Vice President of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
Mr. Dursun Topçu, Vice President of Executive Board of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce,
Distinguished Representatives of Vietnamese Institutions, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Turkish Companies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good morning and welcome. It is our great pleasure and honor to see you all at this opening ceremony.
We are beginning a very special and meaningful day indeed. The 12th Vietnam International Trade Fair and the First Turkish Products Exhibition in Vietnam are being inaugurated simultaneously under the same roof. Several years ago, we had promised that we would introduce the products of Turkey to the people of this beautiful country in this great city. This morning, we are happy to fulfill that promise.
Representatives of 36 Turkish companies with well-established brand names have travelled more than 7 thousand kilometres from Turkey to display their products at this fair. They have brought with them the warmest greetings and best wishes of the Turkish people, folk dancers and artists to give our visitors a taste of the Turkish culture, and, of course, many diverse export items ranging from foodstuffs to machinery. So, a visit to the Turkish pavilion will be an informative as well as a culturally rewarding experience.
Today, the words “made in Turkey” are becoming a familiar sight across the entire world. With a GDP approaching one trillion dollars, and a total trade volume of around 400 billion dollars, Turkey is exporting products to almost every other nation. In this respect, we attach special importance to Vietnam and regard it as a priority trading partner. Its dynamic economy, large domestic market and business-friendly environment make Vietnam an attractive destination for Turkish exporters and investors. In recent years, the friendly relations between the two countries have grown stronger and led to fruitful cooperation in many fields. As a result, we now enjoy a record trade volume of nearly 2 billion dollars, which we hope to increase to 3 billion dollars by 2016.
Mutual participation in such prestigious fairs, both here in Vietnam and in Turkey, will no doubt play a key role in elevating our economic partnership to even higher levels. The Turkish companies participating in this show are pioneeers blazing a trail for others to follow. I am confident that in the future more and more manufacturers and exporters from Turkey will showcase their products directly in Vietnam, thus building new bridges of trade, culture and friendship between our nations.
Before concluding, I would like to express my warmest thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Mr. Nguyen Cam Tu, Vice Minister of Industry and Trade, for kindly inaugurating the Turkish Products Exhibition together with us, and to the organizations and officials on both sides who contributed to the realization of this event, namely, the Turkish Ministry of Economy, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Vietnam National Trade Fair and Advertising Company. I would also like to convey my heartfelt thanks to all the Turkish companies represented here for making this Exhibition possible by their participation. Finally, I wish all the organizers, hosts and visitors a very productive and successful Exhibition in the next few days.
Thank you very much.
